Hello September, when is Fall going to get here?

Happy Labor Day! It is the symbolic end of the summer.  I say symbolic due to the fact that, here in Florida, we will continue to experience summer-like weather until at least November (ugh!).  I get so jealous when I see all the Fall weather energy sweeping over other states, those cooler evenings and spectrum of leaves changing colors, sweaters and hats.  I love all of these things, but will have to wait quite a while to enjoy them here at home.  Here in Florida, we can expect at least a few more months of flip-flop weather (although lets be honest, Floridians will wear flip-flops no matter what the temp).  For those that know me well, it is no secret that I am not a Florida weather lover.  I am dying to relocate to a more 4-seasonal mountain-y type climate, but our family is here and moving with kiddos is really really hard.   So in the meantime, I have to live vicariously through those of you that do get a lovely Fall Season, by ogling your amazing pics and blog posts about the changes.  Since, today it my Pinterest Monday Inspiration Post, and I am a 7.5 month, sweating, pregnant girl, wishing for a weather change, it's an all about Fall today.  These are some inspiring pics of things that I am looking forward to this Fall, whenever it arrives here.

Lovely fall leaves with a little something extra

Lots of chilly morning deer spottings as they come out to find more grass.  Oh and if I lived somewhere with a mountain behind it, that would be fine by me.

Getting lots of new yummy yarns to make warm fuzzy things in the evenings.

I wish I had a reason to wear arm warmers other than a fashion statement (and sweating inside them).

Pretty, fuzzy, warm blanket cuddles.  Dont you love when your toes peek through ones like these?

Going Camping!  My favorite way to spend a weekend in the Fall.

Blooms and Roofs: A Color Study

I've been experimenting in my sketchbook lately exploring color and pattern, working up the nerve to do some serious fabric design on my newly purchased canvas cloth.  I started with some loose sketching of flowers layered on top of each other on one page and then a repetitive pattern of house doodles on the opposite page.  I really wanted to play more with using bright colors against soft hues.  I watered down some simple craft paint and started to play.  Here are a few peeks of what I created in the end.
Dont they remind you of crisp autumn leaves against a sunset sky?  As I was painting the houses, I started to imagine a story about little costumed ghosts and princesses going trick or treating door to door.  Do they inspire you to try a bit of fall inspired art making of your own?  If you'd like to try working with this color palette, I made it super simple for you.  I isolated the colors that I created with and made a digital palette just for you!
As soon as I completed my pages, I left the room and my 3 year old son snuck in and picked up his own creative inspiration on the next page.  I was able to catch him on tape and interview him a bit on his process.  If you have a child, a childlike heart, or maybe need a bit more childishness in your creative world, I highly recommend that you spend the next 2 minutes letting him inspire you.

The Perfect Book for A Love Story

One of the things that I love to do is make creativity journals for people.  Over the years I have amassed a ridiculous amount of random papers, plus I can help myself from picking up tons of vintage papers/books anytime I see the opportunity.  I find using an assortment of interesting papers as a canvas for thoughts, doodles, collages, or photos creates a really great jumping off point for the imagination. Every once in awhile, I get the honor to create a very special book for someone, and collaborate with them to find papers, colors, and textures that reflect their spirit and passions.
I've been working on such a wonderous book this past couple weeks, and it is now zooming away across the states to land in the hands of a very special soon-to-be-wedded couple.  The book will serve as a guest book of sorts at their upcoming fall wedding.  I adored working on it and was over the moon with how beautifully all the ideas came together.  I couldnt be more excited to share with you a few peeks at some of my favorite parts of what I created for them...
a love story from a vintage children's book
pages from fashion magazine paired with valentines doily
personal photos printed on fabric and hand embellished
 vintage wedding wrapping paper
fabric and paint makes such a yummy textured one of a kind cover
lots of interesting shapes, sizes, and colors paired throughout
hand embroidered photo of the couple and a love note
woodland creatures from old story book
recycled ribbons from old saris and hand dyed silk, so rich in color

I can't wait for their friends and family to fill the pages with love and well wishes for the couple's new life together.  What do you think?

*(If you are looking for a unique book to serve as a journal, photo album, gift, or anything else you can dream up, I'd love to create something special just for you.  Just send me a message that you want a custom journal and I can create a custom listing for you in my shop.  I also have pre-made creativity journals available in my Etsy Shop.)

Thanks for letting me share my latest creation with you!
