Ok Weekend Lets Get It On...

True to form, I am 3 days into my work schedule and already I am off track.  My problem becomes that as I am working on one thing, I get a really great idea for another project and since I am inspired and motivated for that thing, I stop what I was working on and fly to something else.  Here's the schedule I laid out for this week
WEEK 1
1. Finish art block sets (5) - print artwork, cut papers, attach, cover with 3 coats poly - I did do these!! I just havn't done the poly coating, but I'll do that this weekend I think.

2. Make Art Necklaces (20) - print images, attach to glass, cut out, adhere to settings, attach bails and chains - Uhm no, havnt touched those.

3. Get (10) Journals done - print covers, attach to cut cardboard, gather papers, bind - Uhm no, havnt touched those either.

I did finish out the Trash/Scrap Art wall hangings that my son and I did together a month or so ago.  (scheduled for like week 3 or 4)  Here is one of them and it will be my inspiration for the weekend of work ahead of me.

Arent they lovely!  My son has a way with abstract color art, and he brings out the best in me for spontaneous art, creating with heart and not thinking.  I am saving the originals for the craft show, but there are prints available in my Etsy Shop.  They would look incredible framed on a wall together.  I have 2 other finished sets of different pieces my son and I did together, and those prints will also be listed later today.

So I am believing in impossible things!... That with a weekend packed with one birthday party, a dinner date with friends, a home church gathering, and a labor day swim party with family,  I WILL get my list for this week complete and not lose my head.

Dont forget, my SUPER SALE of small art journals is going on until Monday!!
Only $10 to bring one home :).

I hope you have a restful and magic-filled weekend with loved ones.

An Artful Morning in Pictures

Today was scrap art day!  Whenever I feel I have the energy to keep up with a 2 year olds art process and deal with the aftermath of mess, I pull out all the art supplies and have a collaboration session with my son.  This is something I started doing with him as a last resort to keep him from painting/drawing all over the project I was working on a few months ago.  In the process, we discovered MAGIC!  I blogged about it and explain more about what the scrap art pieces entail HERE.

It was a whirlwind of fun, messiness, fingerprints (and footprints!), and creativity.  I adore doing art with my little guy.  I hang on to the hope that if I keep involving him in my art, giving him lots of opportunities to explore his own creative capacity, that a little artist may emerge.  Given that my husband doesnt have one tiny inkling to do any kind of fine art (he's more of a musician), I want to produce at least one other artsy person in this family. -it's my own little selfish mommy moment.

15 minutes of getting organized and set up takes about 5 minutes to deconstruct as he loses patience to start and begins exploring the boxes

The glorious chaos of art making can not be contained! (see the splats of paint in the back and there are little blue footprints all over the tile).

Here are some of our pieces drying.  See how super fun they are!  We even used my old bag of buttons to add in the mix.  After the paint is dry, I will go back over them with some more collage elements and pen work.  Then I attach 4 panels together to make a wall hanging.  (I'll post more pics of these when they are totally finished)

The footprint culprit!

Have a creative and artful day!

Scrap Art Discoveries

Using recycled, upcycled, and reurpused materials in my art journals and artworks is really important to me.  I always try to use at least 50% found materials in my art journals, heck its where I can up with the idea to start making them.  I was moving and in the process of packing my art room, I discovered that I owned 3 giant tubs full of random papers/magazines/books, that I was saving for some unknown future project.  So I created the Creativity Art Journal, where the covers are taken from used shipping boxes and the papers are mixed with pages from old books, discarded stuff, used paper bags/newspapers, and taped-together scrap pieces.

But I really like to challenge myself to get more of these types of materials in my art pieces as well.  This can sometimes be a bit more tricky.  This is how I came up with Scrap Art.  (it was also a huge part due to the fact that my son (who's 2) HAS to be painting anytime he sees that I am painting.   So with my little boy in hand and a box of supplies, we set up our "studio."  With some torn up squares from an old box, some acrylic paints, a big brush, and a pile of random bits and pieces of collage elements that I saved from the trash or were left over from other projects, we CREATED together.  He did all the painting.  I just arrange the elements to be added and squirted more paint when he instructed me.   I blogged about this day HERE.  As promised in the previous blog, I finished up the pieces (added some pen work and some words, and chained them together as a cohesive wall piece).  I just love them!  Scrap Art is my new favorite blend of my art time and mothering!  I predict many more pieces will appear over this year.  Here is some pics of the finished piece and some close-ups.

It says (from top to bottom) Imagine/ Dwell in Possibilities/ Free Your Spirit/ Find Bliss.  The other painting next to it is a work in progress.  Just hanging there to dry at the moment, and I will show you more of her when she's finished.

Ooh I just adore them!  A bit of messiness to add beauty to your day.  Let me know what you think.  Have you created anything from "trash?"  Tell me about it and post links.
